Digging

DIGGING STOP DOGS FROM DIGGING
We work all over Sydney and have experience dealing specifically with helping your dog to stop digging
There are many reasons why dogs dig, and listed below is some of them…
Keeping Cool and Comfortable:
Sometimes a dog will dig to find a cooler or warmer place to snuggle into, as it also feels comfortable in a confined space as it remind them of their “den dwelling” nature.
Entertainment:
Some dogs just love to dig such as breed like terriers as they were bred to hunt underground prey, such as rabbits and badgers, so it is in their nature to dig. But any dog can develop a digging habit. Dogs that dig just for fun usually take on a playful posture and change between digging and running around.
Burying Valued Items:
Dogs can bury a variety of things including food, bones, toys and prey. In their wild past it was part of their survival skill as it was a way to store food for later when they might be hungry…similar to our own pantries. It can still be part of their natural survival instinct.
Hunting:
Sometimes a dog might hear underground water and attempt to find out what the noise is, or they hear small underground animals like rabbits or lizards and the dogs natural hunting instincts take over digging relentlessly in an attempt to get to the animal or sound.
Separation-Anxiety Digging:
Dogs suffering from separation anxiety may dig to escape from being left alone.
Escape Digging:
Some dogs dig to escape from confinement.
Eating Dirt or Other Inedible Objects:
Some dogs dig holes to consume soil, roots and other inedible material.
Certain breeds are more likely to dig than others. However, any dog of any breed can develop a digging habit.

What Our Client Say
Hi Wendy, Just wanted to give you an update on Bear – the chocolate Labrador, you trained at our apartment in Vaucluse. He is a new dog !! So much more relaxed and enjoyable to have around. I think the change of diet made a huge difference and we noticed the difference within a couple of days. He is an expert at sit / stay / free now and the new collar for walking has made a huge difference when we take him for a walk.

The training techniques were relevant to my dog Benson’s bad behaviour that’s why the problem I was having with my dog was fixed immediately within the 1 hour. I can now walk easy with Benson without pulling on lead and stop and sit on leash if I want him to.
